This is not my country, The country I was born in Where a mother was esteemed And everybody was a brother and sister

This is a country

Where the once deemed sister

Is raped because of her

motherly bosom and parts unspoken of.

Whatever was her fault?

This is not my country,

The country I first walked in

Where diversity was rejoiced

And affection had no bounds

This is a country

Where one picks a gun

in the name of God

And the love is allowed

Only if you share faith

How ironic is it,

that the very cloak of unity

Is used by man

for the murder of humanity

This is not my country,

The country where I saw

That no one was a stranger

When one needed succour

This is a country

Where one is still not a stranger

Until he falls in love beyond his caste

Then, your darling beloved is not your daughter

And society’s evils win

And her life and blood is worth nothing

Against your family’s pride and honour

It is funny, it truly is,

How dreams for a country

burns up in flames

Where society wields power-

to weigh your life’s worth

And good virtues ricochet- Or end up in dirt

But where does all this hatred lead?

Is a question I often ask

Because from what I know you’ll see

If we cut our flesh,

We all bleed the same at last
